Youth Voices on the Move: Leiden, Netherlands

Seminarkurs Model United Nations (MUN)

Our little MUN-Course 2025/26, under the guidance of Mrs. Kräutle-Brecht and Mr. Schwabenland
Our school's seminar course Model United Nations (MUN), a simulation of UN debates, is a unique opportunity for students who want to learn more about diplomacy and international relations. Together with our teachers Mrs. Kräutle-Brecht and Mr. Schwabenland, we attended this year's ScalaMUN conference in Alphen aan den Rijn. The day before the conference, we spent a day in Den Haag visiting the International Criminal Court, where we saw an exhibition on a case and the step-by-step process involved, and were also shown a video about the ICC. Afterwards, we explored Den Haag's city centre and spent the afternoon at the Mauritshuis art museum. The next day was our first ScalaMUN Conference day with this year's theme "Shaping Tomorrow Together." ScalaMUN allowed us and many other students to participate in councils from UNICEF to the WHO and the UNSC. Debate topics varied from council to council and included genetic modifications in humans and maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait. On the last day, we finished debating other topics, formed final resolutions, and gave students awards for outstanding performances. Finally, we ended ScalaMUN with a closing ceremony and a lottery. Later that evening, we went out for a team dinner at the local Pannenkoekenhuis (Pancake house). All in all, the trip was filled with fun, heated debating, meeting new people, and self-development: a wonderful and whirlwind trip to Leiden.
